ARE YOU UP TO THE TASK?

 

Have you ever wondered why Abraham entrusted the task of searching for a wife (for his son Isaac) to his servant in Genesis 24?

Or didn't it surprise you, that Abraham had so much trust for his servant that he gave him such a crucial and delicate errand?

Many would have believed, saying why didn't Isaac go search for a wife instead, since he will know what he wants better?

The answer to that question is simple. If you read Genesis 24:1 "And Abraham was old, and well stricken of age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things" (KJV).

So Abraham was blessed in all things. And as such he sure had many servants too at his service. Servants are helpers to their Masters. And Abraham is a man of faith, who was upright before God, sure he had servants who will take after his lifestyle of being faithful to God.

And in those days, it was normal for one's parents to bring or propose to a lady for their son to marry. It was very common then. It still happens today, though on a minimal level.

Back to our discussion, Yes, Abraham had so much trust in this servant to come back with good news.

And here we draw the line of our discussion;

If your parent cannot entrust you with the task of finding a suitable spouse for yourself, then there is a problem.

What this means is that they don't believe you can make the right decision (spouse wise). This could probably be a result of;

1. Your lifestyle, 
2. Your immaturity, 
3. Your values,
4. Your perception. 

But not in all conditions could this be your fault. The problem could probably be from your parent's reasons like religion, background and all other related reasons.

Your Lifestyle 

 Your lifestyle sure tells a lot about you, and who you are likely to mingle with. Don't blame your parents if they haven't seen that believer lifestyle in you. Or they just feel there is still something missing in your life, that could stylish your life in the best way possible. 

Your Immaturity 

 Your level of immaturity matters a lot. Some people when asked what things or attributes they need to watch out for in a spouse to be. You'll hear them say (for the ladies),

1. He must be handsome,
2. He should have abs,
3. He should have a pinkish lip,
4. He should be wealthy,
5. He should have beards.

And the guys you'll hear;

1. She needs to have the curves,
2. She needs to have the boobs,
3. She has to be extremely beautiful, 
4. She needs to have the perfect shape...

All these things prove your level of immaturity. Yes, marrying a handsome guy, a guy who has money or a lady who has curves isn't a bad idea at all. What is, is making it the first and major priority to marry that person.

As a believer of Christ (that's if you're one), the first thing that should come first is the person being a believer like you. The spiritual should always come first before any other thing.

Your values

 Your values are probably another thing your parents will watch out for. What are your values? 

Are you the kind of person that;

1. Smokes,
2. Comes home late,
3. Drinks a lot (stupor),
4. Is a drug addict,
5. Is Aggressive, 
6. Can't tolerate,
7. Is always angry...

And so many more values that can't be mentioned here, because we are trying to make this write up as concise as possible.

One of these values mentioned above could make your parents think you're not up to the task of choosing the right partner.

Your Perception 

 Finally, your perception is a very important aspect too. What do you think about marriage? How do you view marriage?

1. Is marriage a bed of roses to you?
2. Do you think marriage is always going to be sweet like sugar?
3. Do you think marrying Mr Right or Mrs Perfect will lead to a perfect marriage?
4. Or do you think only love can make a marriage work?
5. How well can you manage a home?

Most times parents will want to see what we think about marriage, by asking questions to see our level of maturity. 

Well, it isn't their fault. They are just looking out for their children. And as such, they are willing to go the extra mile of getting the right partner for their children.

But in all these, the bottom line is this, there should be a stage in your life when your parents can leave you to decide for yourself, what is right from what is wrong (partner wise).

My advice for persons out there who aren't married or seeking a partner in this, let the Holy Spirit take you through the process and you will come out refined. 

Even your parents will be amazed at what you have become, that they won't interfere with your choice of partner.
