The Significance Of Virginity.
Virginity is a very appreciated value, even the Bible recognizes this. But today, it is revolving. We are in a generation where virginity is taken for granted. Being a virgin (both male and female) though mostly for the ladies, isn't seen as a value to be upheld so high unlike previous generations before ours.
The society is one of the promoters of this act, by the lifestyle they have inculcated into the world and the people in it.
Let's take a view from what the Bible says concerning this. Exodus 22:16 "If a man seduces a virgin not betrothed (still single) and lies with her, he shall surely pay a dowry for her to become his wife" (Amplified Bible).
From the above scriptures, it shows the significance of virginity, and also makes us understand that whosoever deflowers a virgin should marry her. Also the above verse portrays the woman as the major subject to loosing her virginity.
Like we earlier stated, the virginity of a guy is also important.
Another problem that poses a great question is this, How do you know if a person is a virgin?
Well you can't know, except if the person tells you. And the person might choose not to tell you also. It might be a past that the person see as an awful and irritating event and might feel ashamed talking about his/her past. We all have an ugly past in one way or the other.
But the sure and best way to know is the Holy Spirit. And not even what the physicians (Doctors) claim to know. It takes the Holy Spirit to find the right partner for you. And there could be a possibility that this person might still not be a virgin, as a result of past sin (mistakes). But if this person has genuinely repented from the world and chosen to follow Christ, then the blood of Jesus Christ has watched him/her clean.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new" (KJV).
Let's see another verse in the Bible that talks about the significance of virginity. Don't also forget the Bible should be your teacher and not what the world says or teaches.
Luke 1:27 says "To a virgin espoused to a man, whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary" (KJV).
Joseph the earthly father of Jesus Christ was espoused (engaged) to a virgin called Mary, the earthly mother of our LORD Jesus Christ.
Haven't you wondered why it was a virgin (mary) who found favor in the sight of God and also to be the earthly mother of Jesus Christ?
Why wasn't it a non-virgin?
Matthew 1:23 says "Behold, a virgin shall become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel which when translated, means God with us" (Amplified Bible).
God himself values the importance of virginity. Let's see another example in the Old Testament during the time of Isaac and Rebekah.
Genesis 24:15-16 "Behold he had finished praying, Rebecca arrived with a water jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of Bethuel who was the son of Abraham's brother Nahor and his wife Milcah. She was very beautiful young woman and still a virgin. She went down to the well, filled her jar, and came back" (Good News Bible).
You can see, she was a virgin and still very beautiful.
These two things are very hard and rare to find in ladies of this generation. Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo.
So do not underestimate the value of virginity in finding a spouse and also in your life as a person. It is a very important value to God and men with wisdom. This combines with the right values forms what is called Character.
But like we earlier stated, if a person isn't a virgin anymore due to reckless living in the past, or a victim of rape, doesn't mean he/she cannot be your spouse. As long as that person has Christ in his/her life now, and do not go back to the world, then you're free to date, court and marry the person. Because the blood of Jesus Christ has watched that filthiness clean.
But be guided, make sure it is coming from God and not your own infatuation or feelings.
